Home Care Tips
Dr. Gurinsky’s goal is to give each patient a beautiful smile they are confident to show. One of the biggest factors to maintaining your healthy smile is by practicing proper oral care at home. It is important to make sure that you are correctly using the various dental aids available to ensure you are getting the maximum benefit.
Brushing your teeth twice a day is imperative to keep up your oral health. It’s important to use an ADA approved soft-bristled toothbrush along with fluoride toothpaste. Aim the bristles towards your gums at a 45-degree angle and brush in a small circular motion. Make sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth along with brushing your tongue to help remove bacteria. It’s equally important to replace your brush at least every three months or if the bristles become frayed.
Flossing daily helps to keep the spaces between your teeth clean along with the gumlines. Wrap about 14 inches of floss around your middle fingers leaving a 2-inch gap between your hands. Gently glide the floss between each tooth and then curve it into a “C” shape around each tooth and gumline. Make sure to also move the floss up and down between each tooth to clean all sides. If necessary, you can use a dental pick or pre-threaded flosser if you’re having difficulty.
Rising your mouth with water after each meal will help to keep your teeth clean throughout the day. It is also a good idea to rinse your mouth after brushing or flossing. If you’re considering using a mouthwash, consider using one containing fluoride. Our office staff is also more than happy to help you find the right mouthwash for your oral hygiene needs.
